Her name might not ring a bell at first, but Emilie Flöge was a successful businesswoman, fashion designer, artist and partner of the renown German painter of the 20th century, Gustav Klimt. “Emilie Flöge – Beloved Muse” is a one-woman play, based on more than 400 letters than Klimt sent to her, revealing the intimate relationship between two of the most vivacious figures of Viennesse Modern Age. Written specifically for and played by the Austrian actress, Maxi Blaha, the play will be in German. However, your German ineptitude won’t be an obstacle in enjoying this play, since a Turkish translation of the text will be provided to the audience before the play. The play, part of a worldwide tour, will be in Istanbul for two days: Monday, 14 (20:00) and Tuesday, 15 (19:30) May at the Austrian Cultural Forum. There is no admission fee, however the places might fill up pretty quickly so be sure to register via this link. Following its initial run at the Belvedere in Vienna to celebrate the centenary of Klimt’s death, Emilie Flöge – Beloved Muse will go on a worldwide tour also stopping in Istanbul for two shows.
Exhibition Opening: Gustav Klimt – Pioneer of the Modern Age
Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) represents an epoch that continues to fascinate and echo: the Modern Age. The artist has left his mark especially in Vienna and, together with his companions (including Josef Hoffmann, Otto Wagner, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Richard Gerstl, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka), decisively shaped the time around 1900. This exceptional artist died 100 years ago and the exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum is reminiscent of his life and work.
The exhibition can also be visited later on throughout May and June (Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 3 pm). Those of you planning a day trip to Yeniköy should not miss this opportunity to visit the exhibition in the premises of the Palais Yeniköy at the Bosporus.
