Circuit Istanbul will host a talk with artist Heidi Brandow on her ongoing project [in]dispensable, which seeks to identify and document the people working directly in the waste and recycling industries in Turkey. Taking place on Friday 16 March, the event kicks off at 19:00. Entrance is free and the discussion will take place in English.
From the Organizer:
[in]dispensible is a social engagement art project based in Turkey that seeks to humanize our relationship and understanding of waste. The impending risks of global warming are seemingly abstract for those residing in developed nations. Massive industries related to waste and recycling play a significant role in processing our daily excess. However, our connection and understanding of these processes are naive or nonexistent. This naivete feeds our habits of excess and preserves the concept of global warming as abstract and non-existent.
[in]dispensible identifies and documents the people involved in an industry that is simultaneously invisible yet essential to the daily function and survival of our global community. Through a series of interviews with recycling collectors (kağıt toplayıcısi) in the Istanbul, we highlight them as individuals.
We hope to see you soon!
