Sound Ports Istanbul brings us Touareg blues and Western rock from Mali’s Kidal in Tamikrest, with TAU (psychedelic folk rock) opening, at Salon IKSV on Friday 31 March. The fun kicks off at 22:00, with tickets priced at 45 TL (35 TL for students) and available via Biletix.
From the organizer:
Tamikrest: Gathered in the town of Kidal, the most important symbol of the Taireg people’s cultures. Their unique “Chatma” album, dedicated to The Tuareg women, attracted broad attention in Europe.
TAU: Inspired by natural and shamanic experiences, their album “TAU TAUTAU” was released in Berlin in October last year. They recorded songs with musicians such as Earl Harvin and Miss Kenichi from Tindersticks, and Knox Chandler from Siouxsie and the Banshees. The track “Mother and Midnight Jaguar” reflected the spiritual music of North America, while “The Bridge of Khajou” is a contemporary take on Iranian mysticism and sufism. With extremely hypnotic performances, the band combines the psychedelic folk movement with the South American Ayavaska ceromonies.
