Kültür Istanbul, as part of their 34 Calling series, continue to impress by inviting kamancheh master Mark Eliyahu to take center stage at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theatre, alongside several surprise names. A blend of traditional instruments and sounds, with more modern takes and genre-defying twists, will surely make for a memorable live show. Kültür AŞ, association of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is bringing together the 34 Calling concert series, which will turn Istanbul on the route of international tours, with music lovers. 34 Calling, which started with the Hooverphonic with Orchestra concert on June 11th; continues with kamancha master Mark Eliyahu & Friends at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theater on June 13th.
Mark Eliyahu, who blends the East and the West in her music and combines old instruments with modern and inter-genre sounds, will be accompanied by surprise names on the stage.
Who is Mark Eliyahu?
Mark Eliyahu was born in 1982 in Dagestan, the son of tar master, composer, arranger and musicologist Piris Eliyahu. Since the day he was born, he has intertwined his whole life with music. Eliyahu, who started to form strong bonds with instruments with violin and piano, discovered baglama at the age of 12-13 and went to Greece for baglama training at the age of 16 and took lessons from Ross Daly.
While he was also getting information about Turkish music from his teacher, one morning he heard the sound of kamancha playing on the CD and was very impressed by this sound. At the age of 17, he went to Azerbaijan to study kamancha, where he learned Persian-Azerbaijani music from his master, Adalet Vazirov.
Combining ancient instruments such as kamancha and tar with modern and cross-genre sounds; Combining East and West, Mark Eliyahu takes his music one step further and takes him on a deep sound journey.
