Icons of Northern Ireland’s alternative rock scene will bring their decades of experience to Blind on Friday 09 February. Doors are set to open at 20:30, with tickets available via the official Blind Biletix page. They’ll be joined by local outfit Second.
Since their formation in 1989 against the backdrop of Northern Ireland’s tumultuous times, Therapy? has emerged as a musical powerhouse that defies genre constraints. Comprising Andy Cairns (vocals/guitar), Michael McKeegan (bass), and Neil Cooper (drums), this Belfast-based trio has crafted a unique sound by seamlessly blending punk, metal, and alternative rock.
With early releases like “Babyteeth” (1991) and “Pleasure Death” (1992), Therapy? made waves for their raw intensity and unapologetic exploration of mental health themes. However, it was the breakthrough album “Troublegum” (1994) that propelled them to international acclaim. Anthems like “Screamager” and “Nowhere” showcased their ability to marry heavy riffs with infectious melodies, establishing them as a dynamic force in the alternative music scene.
Over the years, Therapy? has continued to evolve, experimenting with different genres while maintaining their core identity. From the industrial tones of “Infernal Love” (1995) to the electronic influences of “High Anxiety” (2003), the band’s discography offers a diverse sonic journey. Live performances have been a cornerstone of their career, solidifying their reputation as an electrifying act and earning them a dedicated global following.
Approaching their fourth decade as a band, Therapy? remains as relevant as ever. The 2020 release “Greatest Hits (2020 Versions)” showcased reimagined classics, highlighting their ability to reinvent without losing authenticity. With a legacy rooted in resilience, musical innovation, and a commitment to genuine expression, Therapy? continues to be a vital force in the ever-evolving landscape of alternative rock.
As they navigate the changing tides of the music industry, Therapy? stands tall, a testament to the enduring power of boundary-pushing rock music. In an era of fleeting trends, this Northern Irish trio remains a symbol of authenticity and musical excellence, adding an essential chapter to the rich narrative of their homeland’s musical heritage.
