Following the release of 17 albums and a prestigious GRAMMY nomination, Ibrahim Maalouf returns with an innovative musical project. T.O.M.A, an acronym for “Michel Ange’s Trumpets,” embarks on a captivating journey fusing folklore and modernity in philosophical, historical, and musical dimensions. Ibrahim’s music consistently strikes the perfect balance between sophistication and accessibility, providing a challenging yet inviting experience for diverse audiences.
Commencing his musical journey with classical education, Maalouf achieved international acclaim by winning numerous classical music competitions at the age of 20. Transitioning into the pop, jazz, and world music scenes in the early 2000s, he dominated the charts with multiple hit singles and albums. Throughout his musical odyssey, Maalouf graced the stage in numerous concerts, sharing it with luminaries such as Sting, Salif Keita, Amadou & Mariam, and Lhasa de Sela. In addition to his virtuosity as a trumpeter, he has taken on roles as a producer, composer, and arranger in various albums, including several soundtrack compositions.
Ibrahim Maalouf, known for his four-valve trumpet capable of playing quarter tones, a creation of his father Nassim Maalouf, challenges the traditional three-valve trumpet. The son of trumpeter Nassim Maalouf and pianist Nada Maalouf, and the nephew of writer Amin Maalouf, he demonstrated his prowess by successfully performing Bach’s No. 1 at the age of 15. Under the tutelage of Gérard Boulanger, he initiated his career with two Brandenburg Concertos, collaborating with renowned figures such as Elvis Costello, Sylvia Schwartz, Vanessa Paradis, Vincent Delerm, and Sting over the years.
Witness Ibrahim Maalouf’s captivating performance at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theatre on May 25, 2024, where his distinctive sound spanning jazz, rap, world, and Middle Eastern genres continues to captivate audiences with his unique musical style forged throughout his illustrious career.
