Renowned French producer, composer, songwriter, and remixer, Simon Herrer, known by his stage name French 79, has significantly influenced the French Touch genre, a prominent sub-genre of the 2000s EDM scene. His debut album “Olympic,” released in 2016, and “Joshua,” released in 2019, played a pivotal role in reshaping this musical landscape.
Residing in Marseille for over two decades, French 79 aligns himself with iconic figures of the electronic music scene like Erik Satie, Jean-Michel Jarre, Air, and Daft Punk. With tracks such as “Between the Buttons,” “Diamond Veins feat. Sarah Rebecca,” and “Hometown,” he has captivated diverse audiences. Notable collaborations with artists like Husbands, Nasser, and Kid Francescoli have solidified his position as an ambassador for the Marseille electronic music scene, boasting over 150 global performances.
Beyond solo endeavors, French 79 has gained international recognition through collaborations, including a musical partnership with French techno star NTO. His remixes of Tiësto’s movie soundtracks “Diamond Veins” and “Drive,” as well as his reinterpretation of Erik Satie’s “Gnossienne No. 5” for Deutsche Grammophon, showcase the artist’s versatility.
Presenting his latest album “TEENAGERS,” crafted partly in Jean-Michel Jarre’s Paris studio and the historic Miraval Studios, French 79 invites listeners to experience a blend of innovative and nostalgic synth melodies and dance rhythms. On Friday, February 23, he will grace the stage at Babylon, promising an impressive and energetically charged performance.
