As part of a wonderfully full 31st Istanbul Jazz Festival program, courtesy of IKSV, comes the incredible talents of poet and storyteller Arlo Parks on Tuesday 9 July at Sultan Park (Swissotel The Bosphorus). Tickets are available now via Passo.
From the organizer:
Despite the anxieties of this century, it is hard not to believe Arlo Parks when she softly sings, “You’re not alone like you think you are” in “Hope”. There is a sincerity in her voice, lyrics, and authenticity that convinces you that you have found a home.
Her 2021 Mercury Prize-winner and Grammy-nominated album, Collapsed in Sunbeams, was predominantly R&B, soul, and indie. Following her debut album which The Guardian heralded as the “birth of a great talent,” she embarked on a world tour, performing hundreds of concerts and sharing the stage with artists like Harry Styles, Lorde, and Florence + the Machine. With her latest album, My Soft Machine, released in 2023, she shifted towards alternative pop and delved into the themes of sorrow, turbulence, healing, and placelessness.
Arlo Parks is a passionate poet and a skilled storyteller. Her songs enter many homes every day and are listened to thousands of times. She has many more stories to tell. This summer, at the 31st Istanbul Jazz Festival, we will attach an Arlo Parks song to the corners of hazy photographs, to journeys with uncertain destinations, to just the right amount of melancholy, and to the excitement of awaiting the sunrise.
