The Bodyguard Musical comes to İstanbul for the very first time at Zorlu PSM from Thursday 11 September to Saturday 20 September in a production presented by BKM and Zorlu PSM. Based on the 1992 film that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, the stage adaptation combines romance, suspense, and contemporary musical theatre with a score built around some of Houston’s most celebrated songs, making it one of the most widely performed musicals of the past decade. Adapted for the stage by Alexander Dinelaris, the musical expands on the story of former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect international superstar Rachel Marron after she becomes the target of a dangerous stalker. Since its world premiere in London in 2012, The Bodyguard Musical has toured extensively across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, introducing the story to new audiences while remaining closely connected to the legacy of the original film.
The production features a catalogue of songs closely associated with Whitney Houston’s career, including I Will Always Love You, I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me), Queen of the Night, Run to You, and One Moment in Time. Rather than functioning as a conventional jukebox musical, these songs are woven into the narrative, reflecting the central character’s life as a global pop star while underscoring the emotional arc of the story.
