(June 11) Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra @ Atatürk Cultural Center

The 53rd Istanbul Music Festival will launch with a grand opening concert on Wednesday 11 June, at the iconic Atatürk Cultural Center’s Türk Telekom Opera Hall, promising an evening that merges tradition with innovation under this year’s inspiring theme, “Beyond Borders.” The prestigious Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra will take center stage, conducted by the internationally acclaimed Aziz Shokhakimov, whose dynamic style and artistic sensitivity have captivated audiences worldwide. Joining them will be the powerful voices of the Plovdiv State Opera Choir, offering a rich choral complement to the evening’s repertoire. The tickets for this majestic event are available via Passo.

One of the evening’s highlights will be the world premiere of ”Earth Loves People One by One”, a new orchestral work by celebrated Turkish composer Hasan Uçarsu. Co-commissioned by the Istanbul Music Festival and the Tekfen Foundation, with support from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the piece meditates on humanity’s delicate relationship with the Earth; a fitting message for a festival focused on unity and sustainability.

Complementing the premiere will be a performance of Alexander Borodin’s stirring Polovtsian Dances. This masterpiece is known for its vibrant blend of Eastern motifs and Western symphonic structure, echoing the cultural dialogue the festival seeks to promote.

Before the music begins, the festival will present its 2025 Honorary Award to Mesut İktu, a revered figure in Turkish opera and music education. His lifelong commitment to the arts and his contributions to nurturing future generations of musicians make him a worthy recipient of this prestigious honor. Tickets for the opening concert are available for purchase through Passo.
