Authentically exotic, psychedelic folk music group Flower Room’s art is digged!
“Along with timbers arising within us against commotion, society and time, we reflect our inner selves and include concepts of divine nature, sensations and eternity” says Eray and Can regarding their band, Flower Room.
Flower Room came alive with two talented young musicians getting together; Eray Gedik and Can Öztürk. Eray is a sincere young man and an experimental musician based in Istanbul. He got his degree in Philosophy in Istanbul University and currently studies at the department of Music at Istanbul Bilgi University. His interest in Philosophy stems from his fascination by the fact that imagination creates cosmos. As theories occur with imagination then turn into theories which some day could be proven right. Eray’s relationship with creating composed of two periods, beginning with his eighteens he widely listened various genres while playing classic rock and grunge. After a while he decided to explore his inner timbers and turned them into psychedelic acoustic and discovered the power of improvisation.
Eray’s valuable friendship with Can Öztürk lasts over ten years. Can majors in department of Music in Istanbul as well. Composing melodies with their acoustic guitars has been a strong part of their long lasting relationship. When they started playing outdoors and in public transportation, they fascinated their audience. Which some call “It is like coming out of space and also deep within. Nothing like I heard before here in Turkey.” What I find interesting about Flower Room is this very fact. In Turkey, music that focuses only on human soul, is very rare. Flower Room has a transitional taste between West and East and human and human yet it is not foreign or far. On the contrary, it makes the audience encounter with themselves through naturalistic core/tinklings of theirs.
Flower Room’s first studio album “Infinite and Reality” released with “Kare Müzikevi” in February 2018 which takes you on a spiritual journey that lasts for an hour and eight minutes.
It is not easy to classify Flower Room’s genre however it is suitable to mansion it as experimental, psychedelic folk and free improvisation. Almost all of their songs are instrumental. In their music, it is as if a story has begun for you to join, perceive and seize.
The band’s philosophy is very much connected with circles as well. Eray and Can consider music as our understanding of life. Wholeness they find within themselves and within nature is reflected in their art harmoniously. As they experiment with life, they experiment with music too and since both of these are actually connected, this is the only way it can go. That is why improvisation is crucial for them. Grabbing their guitars, they jump up and down on stage and let the instruments feel the frequency within and around them, meditating.
Social observations feed their art greatly too. Fascism of the West leads music whereas wisdom of the East harmonies it and humans as well. So, in this roller-coaster wonderland we call “post-modernity” rhythms of life, through its most profound essence, want to scream, to be heard and tranquilize us for the harmony and the balance we long for so long.
Flower Room also take stages in Alternative music festivals, pubs, public transportation of Istanbul, with music communities of several universities, group yoga events, exhibitions and still and always in outdoors, the heart of nature.
Here is my favorite song of the band, “Perception”
