Organized by İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi (IBB), as part of İBB Kültür AŞ, the 1500 year-old Basilica Cistern is opening the new series “Voices of the Deep” with a delightful concert “From Bach to Itri”. Conducted by the Ensemble Orient-Occident Istanbul orchestra, the sonic delight will include pieces from Johann Sebastian Bach and Buhurizade Mustafa Itrî on select days from January 18 till February 22. The event starts at 21:00 and tickets are available via Passo.

A new event series, Voices Of The Deep starts at the Basilica Cistern with “From Bach To Itrî” concert!
The lives and works of two great musicians, who are the representatives of Western and Eastern civilizations, will meet on the same stage within the concert series of ‘’Voices Of The Deep: From Bach to Itrî’’, which will be held as part of Night Shift concept.
The 1500 year old Basilica Cistern continues to host cultural and artistic activities. Voices Of The Deep concert series, where the magical atmosphere of the cistern will meet with music, starts with its first event on January 18th with a concert ‘’From Bach to Itrî’’.
The concert, where the works of two contemporary musicians, Bach and Itrî, which are the common heritage of humanity, will once again reach to their audiences to witness the spiritual power of music that goes beyond all borders. The performance will be an example of how music is an unifying language in which people from different civilizations can connect with each other.
Conducted by the Ensemble Orient – Occident Istanbul orchestra; a special selection to be performed by Hakan Dedeler (Tanbur), Eyüpcan Açıkpazu (Reed Flute), Nurullah Ejder (Qanun), Ayşenur Ayyıldız Haksoy (Soprano), Gülşah Erol (Cello), Hande Önder (Piano) and Serhan Bali (Narrator, Baritone) The voice from the depths of history will be listened to.

About Bach and Itrî;
Buhurizade Mustafa Itrî lived between 1640-1711. Johann Sebastian Bach was born in 1685 and died in 1750. These two great people have jointly honored our world as the cultural poles of two different civilizations over a period of twenty five years.
