“Before the good weather carries the joy of music to outdoors, arkaoda presents a mini festival hosting local and international distinctive musicians and DJs with support from Kendine Has. Having mostly Berlin and Leipzig based artists in its program, this year will give emphasis on experimental, psychedelic and cosmic tones.
Air Cushion Finish
Air Cushion Finish formed in Berlin in 2007 and comprised composer/player jayrope and natural vocal synthesizer Lippstueck, who had enjoyed playing Berlin’s underground together since the 1990s. Lippstueck prominently sings, wordless and backwards in time, while his partner jayrope tends to also appreciate any DIY, electronic, string or percussion instrument small enough to fit into a single suitcase altogether.
Changing setup and subsequently music is programmatic to them, as well as having friends as guest musicians, all resulting into an unforeseeable slow motion cacophony of whispers, bleeps, rhythms and harmoni
I T O E
Releasing their debut album this spring, improv collective I T O E will hit the road this june. A circle, consisting of 3 to 6 young musicians, is constantly developing its ideas of instrumentation and performance practices. Broad atmospheric layers of electronic and acoustic reverberations hovering on hypnotic, dense rhythmic patterns that dissolve at times into loose, fractured noise chunks. Tracks that dissolve into a conscious expanding journey.
Esclé
The Leipzig DJ and festival maker Simon “Esclé” Clement is interested most in psychedelic sounds, in music which creates a new relationship between the body and the spirit. Clement was responsible for a series of events all over Germany to honour Krautrock producer Conny Plank, who died in 1987 and helped bands such as Kraftwerk, Neu! and Cluster to each develop their own radical aesthetic. Between 2013 and 2015 he curated the concert and conversation series “Kraut & Drastik” at the Münchner Kammerspiele together with Tobias Staub. Since 2015 he has been co-owner of the Leipzig independent cultural centre Pracht. His DJ set at the Ruhrtriennale traces connections between American minimalism , German cosmic music from the 1970s and African pop music traditions.
