Aradolu: Organic and Homemade Turkish Goods

It seems safe to say that organic is now a thing in Turkey. This isn’t that surprising, actually, as villagers all over the country have been producing food without pesticides for ages, using tried-and-true techniques passed down through the generations. I guess one could say it has always been a thing, but just without the fancy name.

So, you want to buy organic goods. Where can you get them? While it’s getting easier to find some organic products in traditional supermarkets, the selection can be lacking and the prices quite high. That’s where Aradolu has your back – it’s a new website dedicated to selling natural, organic products, all of which are handmade in Turkey. Now you have more options AND you can shop in your underwear, win-win.

Not only does the site have organic and natural foodstuff, it also features a wide range of Turkish crafts. Dedicated to supporting and preserving traditional crafts and craftspeople, Aradolu provides these artisans with a place to sell and promote their products. The result is a wide selection of handmade goods on offer. I’m sure we’ve all been on those frenzied trips to the Grand Bazaar before a trip home (or even worse, slinking through the gift shops at the airport and buying the least offensive scarf available) and would prefer not to repeat them if possible. Thankfully, Aradolu can make the whole experience of shopping for traditional Turkish goods, not just for others but also for yourself, much more pleasant. Not to mention the peace of mind that you’re purchasing goods actually made in Turkey and not just said to be made in Turkey. (I’m looking at you, Mr. Handmade-in-Turkey carpet salesman!)

Although the website is currently in Turkish, they’re launching an English language version of the site in early April. To celebrate the launch, they have kindly offered Yabangee readers a 15% discount on any order submitted in April! From 1 April until 1 May, enter in the discount code YABANGEEAPRIL under the heading  “Hediye Çeki Kullanımı” when checking out. Go peruse what they have on offer (all the goods are hand-picked by Aradolu staff to ensure quality) and treat yourself to some homemade goodness. The website accepts foreign credit cards and orders can be shipped anywhere in Turkey – happy shopping!

After a few brief flings with the city, Emma has finally moved full-time to Istanbul. A forever-student of Ottoman and Turkish history, she enjoys reading and writing about the city’s past and present.
