Festival d’Aix-en-Provence

From the organizer:

Festival d’Aix-en-Provence can be considered as a part of the post-World War II world in which artistic ventures such as Cannes Film Festival and Festival d’Avignon emerged. Having established its status as one of the leading opera festivals of the world, it will be held between July 3rd and 22nd this year and will once again present a distinguished selection. Zorlu PSM will feature some of these outstanding opera pieces through screenings at the giant screen of Zorlu PSM Amfi between July 19th and August 16th with the cooperation of French Institute of Istanbul!

Having been founded by Gabriel Dusserget, the French opera director known for his impeccable passion for art, with the help of Countess Lily Pastré; Festival d’Aix-en-Provence has become one of the best opera festivals around the world ever since, in a way officially registering itself as such with the Best Opera Festival Award it received at the International Opera Awards in London.

So what do we have at the festival program? It will mark the world premiere of Pinocchio, the opera by Philippe Boesmans with libretto by Joël Pommerat as an adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s iconic character. Carmen; the classic Georges Bizet opera which was adapted by the short story of Prosper Mérimée with libretto by Henri Meilhac ve Ludovic Halévy, will appear with its brand new production for the first time. Another premiere for the new production will be Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, a young one among the others despite its history of over 60 years, being staged on September 1951 at Venice’s La Fenice for the first time. Don Giovanni, the classic of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will also be here with the collaboration of Opéra National de Lorraine, Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Teatro Comunale Di Bologna, carrying the libretto of Lorenzo da Ponte to the stage of Festival d’Aix-en-Provence with its brand new production. Another opera worth noting down from the program is Francesco Cavalli’s Erismena, in collaboration with Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg. With the libretto by Aurelio Aureli, Erismena was first staged on December 1655 at Theater San Apollinare in Venice.

Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, which will feature opera’s finest, is coming to Zorlu PSM Amfi, which has started to develop a fanbase of its own! A fine selection of the recorded works from the festival will be at the giant screen of Zorlu PSM Amfi between July 19th and August 16th!
