“Surface Bulk or The Mine Mountain” @ Operation Room

The American Hospital‘s gallery, Operation Room, will host Furkan Temir’s exhibition “Surface Bulk or The Mine Mountain” from Thursday 15 June through Saturday 19 August.

Surface Bulk or The Mine Mountain

From the organizer:

Furkan Temir’s photographs, taken during his travels in Turkey, will be presented to the viewer with a new narrative adapted to the exhibition space.

Carrying a documentary quality, which forms the main axis of the exhibition, color and black and white photographs, shot over the last 2 years, will be accompanied by a video installation, consisting of hundreds of passport photographs selected from archives found in Anatolia. These photographs have been programmed algorithmically for the video. From the regions photographed by Temir, selected 3D digital models transformed into printed matter will also be presented to the viewers. Another part of the installation consists of basalt, asphalt and concrete samples of various sizes.

What kind of information does a “country” provide about the individual’s position? In a society that has a tradition of covering what is on the surface, and unearth what is deeply buried, how is it possible to build up a mental and sensorial connection to the environment? “Surface Bulk or The Mine Mountain” moves around these questions anew, using the tradition of the relationship between documentary photography to culture and geography.

The exhibition is curated by Ilgın Deniz Akseloğlu. Graphic design by Umut Altıntaş.
