(Saturday) Yabangee Goes Camping! Greetings friends! Summer is just around the corner and we thought the best way to celebrate would be to warm up with a little camping session just outside the city. Barbecue, music, games, various activities… anything is possible! Note: We will be staying at a campsite, which will include basic amenities like toilets, showers, etc. The campsite is near the sea, so you can bring your bathing suit if you plan on swimming. Although the site is accessible by public transport, we’re trying to arrange a shuttle to take us directly there.

(Saturday) Ach! Art @ ATÖLYE Join us, ACHPROJEKT and p(ART)y, on Saturday May 13th at Atolye from 8-12pm, for an art exhibition, a book release, music, and dancing. We’ll have an area set up for you to be creative with paper, canvas, and pastels, as well as lots of interesting people to have philosophical conversations with. Photographers exhibiting work include photojournalist Tara Todras-Whitehill, instagram favorite Sveta Nekrasova, pinhole photographer Sheila Bocchine, and travel photographer Christopher Mitchell.”

Rebetiko Food Night @ Komşu Kafe Collective “This Friday we invite you to check out our Rebetiko event, where we will dive into unique combination of music and food. At its outset, Greek rebetiko song had been a disreputable genre inasmuch as many intellectual opinion-leaders associated it with urban lowlifes and Turkish music. Today, however, members of the educated classes — in Greece as well as in Turkey — hold this genre in high esteem as one of the great achievements of modern Greek and late Ottoman popular culture, respectively. The author explores the ways rebetiko is perceived and performed in Istanbul and Athens in an era of Greek-marginality. This marginality, however, is redefined in relation to the present thus accounting, it is argued, for the emotional impact rebetiko continues to have on listeners in both countries.”

Country For Syria @ CreAtolye “The band blends traditional Middle Eastern music with American Country music. The band’s earnings contribute aid to Syrian refugees and those affected by conflict around the world. Country music has its origins in the American Civil War. Now Syria is in the midst of its own civil war. Their music draws parallels between the musical and lyrical themes of Middle Eastern and American Country music to connect personal experiences of conflict and migration from around the world. Both the Country and Arabic musical traditions share themes of migration, love, loneliness, longing for home, patriotism, faith, and relationship to place. Both tell stories through narrative ballads, through pastoral meditations, by praising folk heroes and through the idealization of a lost way of life.”

Unfortunately these days the park is full of trash due to the lack of interest of the local administration. So let’s go and solve this problem by ourselves, rid our park of the garbage polluting it and end our day with a beautiful sunset. Do not forget to bring your gloves, your garbage bags, your musical instruments and your joy with you!”
