From the organizer:

Peyroux’s interest in music began early on as a child. Being brought up with old records by her parents whom she describes as “hippies” and “eccentric educators”, she got in contact with music at a young age. Her mother’s ukulele was the first instrument she ever played. Although she adored and was influenced by musicians such as Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Patsy Cline, Édith Piaf, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Mercer, Charlie Chaplin, Serge Gainsbourg and Bob Dylan since her youth, it was Paris that made Madeleine Peyroux became acquainted with the band that changed her life. When she was 15, she took a huge step towards who she is today by joining the band called Riverboat Shuffle, after spending time with street performers in Paris. She then joined The Lost Wondering Blues and Jazz Band, which enabled her to perform in many important jazz festivals around Europe. She went on to stay in the band for a couple of years.

After releasing “Dreamland”, the album which crowned her success with huge acclaim and prestigious awards, Peyroux went on to attract the spotlight of the music industry with the number of sales reaching a total of 200.000. The album, released on the Atlantic Records label, was recorded in only 5 nights with the collaboration of esteemed jazz musicians such as guitarist Marc Ribot, saxophone player James Carter, pianist Cyrus Chestnut, keyboard player Charlie Giordano, violinist Regina Carter, drummer Kenny Wollesen and Leon Parker. The record, arranged by Greg Cohen and produced by Yves Beauvais, consisted of covers of Patsy Cline’s “Walkin’ After Midnight”, Édith Piaf’s “La Vie En Rose” and two Bessie Smith songs.

Named “the Billie Holiday of the 21st century” by critics, she was also described as “the most exciting voices of the year” by Time magazine in 1996. Having shared the stage with huge musicians such as Sarah McLachlan, Cesária Évora, James Carter and Mick Reed throughout her career, she continued her success with the 2004 album “Careless Love”.

The Madeleine Peyroux album “Half The Perfect World”, which was released in 2006, won her a BBC Award for Best International Jazz Musician in 2007.

Having released her 6th and latest album “The Blue Room” in 2013, Madeleine Peyroux has succeeded in expanding her range in musical compositions from jazz to acoustic blues, country and pop. Peyroux, a musician known for her strong vocals, never passes on a chance to salute her musical influences and history of music itself with surprise covers during her live performances.

On December 5th, you will experience the magic of jazz with the exceptional performance of Madeleine Peyroux during the event within Garanti Caz Yesili!
