Ariel Sanat will host “Space Antelope Space Air”, prepared by Ayşe Orhun Gültekin, Derya Yıldız and Buğra Yücesan with conceptual framework of Norgunk, from Thursday 12 May through Saturday 25 June. Work from artists Cana Bilir-Meier, Deniz Gül and Seçil Yersel will be featured.

A mind transformed, yet liberalized and crystallized by a disease, art historian Aby Warburg, inspired by the genii of memory, during the last couple of years of his life invented an atlas of images extending across times and realms. In the panels he produced according to a bewildering technique of montage, he distorted cultural history through an anachronic process of collecting, aligning, dissolving, weaving and intersecting. Then he restructured them in line with the probability of the images.
The power of the surpassing of linear time in Mnemosyne’s Atlas, Warburg’s attempt to rework visual data, has been the inspiration for the leap of Space Antelope Space Air.* In her video, composed with found and borrowed images, Cana Bilir-Meier seeks to show the moments of the dazzling of an interrupted memory. Deniz Gül imagines a personal spelling book, flouting the semantic and phonetic range provided by words, renaming them according to connotations and shifts in sound, piercing language with language. Seçil Yersel handles montage as a topographical arrangement. According to her, each element, accumulated at a glance, pertains to cut-up architecture. What matters, in short, is not the framing but the décadrage, or de-framing: bend, flex, cut, paste.
