Organization Profile: Jasmine Baladi

Editor’s Note: Jasmine Baladi is one of the organizations at this year’s We Are All Refugees event.

Jasmine Baladi is a Syrian run, non-profit organization currently based in Reyhanlı, which is located in southern Turkey. Since opening its doors in 2012, it has been working to achieve one goal – children without suffering.

Jasmine Baladi believes children to be one of the most affected by the conflict in Syria, losing not only their homes, friends and family members, but also their right to a childhood.

The dedicated team work hard alongside the children to help them regain some of what they have lost, with the aim of achieving peace in the future and rebuilding their childhoods in a positive way.

Above all the organization is working to educate, entertain and reestablish the lives and youth of the children in a nurturing and creative environment.

The studio in Turkey welcomes children between the ages of 4-14 and runs a variety of workshops and courses, from simple fun and games to psychosocial support and programs offering assistance to children with special needs and learning difficulties. The team are working closely with the children, trying to ensure that there are elements of innocence remaining in their lives and using methods such as role play and dialogues to help some children deal with the effects of trauma and disturbance during the conflict.

The masks on display at ‘We Are All Refugees II’ are an example of one of the many art projects the talented children at Jasmine Baladi studio created.

When creating these masks, the children were directed to decorate them however they’d like. Having been given total freedom in this artistic venture, with no boundaries or borders, they simply expressed themselves using art.

The results on display represent the mission of Jasmine Baladi, an organization trying to work toward a future where Syrian children can live in peace and obtain all their human rights. They achieve these aims by using art, entertainment and a dedicated team of individuals.

Masks will be available to purchase for a suggested donation of 20TL.

To support this organization and the greater cause, be sure to join us on Saturday 30 May at We Are All Refugees. Over 20 bands, artists & organizations have come together for a night of fun, donations, and fundraising.
