Want to Learn Turkish? Try World Café

It wasn’t so long ago that we promoted the first iteration of World Café, a language learning project organized by local university teachers. After a brief hiatus and many requests for their return, it would seem that they’re back in action. It’s a cool and unique opportunity to jump right into the language, so why not give it a shot? If you’re interested, you can fill out the form here.

From the organizer:

World Café is an exciting new project involving putting together people of different mother tongues who want to learn or improve their language skills. The Project pairs up participants to meet on a regular basis. Pairs are determined by the university based on qualities requested on each application. Participants are given tasks to carry out before each meeting, which may vary from seeing a movie together to cooking each others’ traditional food, or creating spaces for sharing and exchanging language and culture. The project proceeds like this for six months.

The two people will have the opportunity to learn about different cultures and at the same time introduce other people to their own culture. If you are someone who is interested in meeting other people and enjoy making international friendships then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

The World Café is striving to create a community consisting of language partner learning. It is our hope that World Café members will be introduced to new cultures by celebrating the differences and similarities that people have in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

In short, The World Café is a free and mutual exchange of knowledge about language and culture on the levels of both reciprocity as well as community.

For whom is this a good fit?

  • For people who want to learn about different cultures and at the same time introduce other people to their culture.
  • For people who are interested in meeting other people and enjoy making international friendships.
  • For people of different mother tongues who want to learn or improve their partner’s language.

World Café is a community consisting of language partner learning, introducing and experiencing one another’s cultures by celebrating the differences and the colours they have on a common ground.

Again, for those interested, simply fill out the application form here. Otherwise, be sure to check out their official Facebook page.
