Official Statement:

“European women and ‘home’in Istanbul: Reading identities through an analysis of domestic spaces”

This research project is conducted by Asst.Prof.Dr. Didem Kılıçkıran of Kadir Has University, Department of Architecture, and sponsored by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) from November 2013 to November 2015.

In broad terms, the project aims to explore how European ‘expat’ women living in Istanbul re-create a sense of belonging (a sense of ‘home’) in their residential spaces. It is based on a reading of the representation and re-negotiation of identities through an analysis of domestic spaces and home-making practices. In methodological terms, the project relies on face-to-face, semi-structured interviews.
